A book by Yannis Detorakis

A new theory about extremely deep freediving narcosis. It is explained as narcosis of the descending phase – caused mainly by nitrogen and as narcosis of the ascending phase – caused by carbon dioxide.

In record freediving the divers face the narcotic effects of gases such as nitrogen. High pressure gas narcosis manifests itself in its own symptoms in freediving during descent and at the maximum depth and in a manner comparable to what we have known to date in scuba diving.
